Cream City Calligraphers and Paper Arts meets at Whitefish Bay High School at 1200 Fairmount Avenue, Whitefish Bay, WI. Evening meetings are held in September, October, November, February, March, April, and May at 7pm. A special John Hancock Dinner is held in January. Guests are always welcome!
The meeting place is either in the cafeteria (enter at the Door #3 entrance off of Marlborough Drive) or a room accessed off of Ardmore Avenue.
Details regarding the meeting place will be listed in Calligraffiti, our membership newsletter and on our calendar (found on our Events & Activities page).
We welcome new members of any skill level. Our meetings feature speakers or hands-on projects related to calligraphy and paper arts. Our purpose is to share ideas and techniques and to bring well-known calligraphers to the Milwaukee area.
Join us for our next meeting:
Thursday, September 26 at 7pm
First, we will look at a brief history of Illuminated letters and how they have evolved from medieval to modern. We will be working on a 5” x 5” multi-media square and learning how to apply Simple Leaf (faux gold leaf) with double tack mounting film. For the sake of time, the guild will supply an alphabet letter for you to use. This is a handy application to learn because it can carry over to other craft and card-making projects.
At the meeting, we will also hear from our members who traveled to calligraphy conferences this summer, and we will have a little gallery of their projects to inspire you. If you attended a conference, please bring a sample of your work, and plan on briefly telling the group about your experience.
Supplies to bring: pencil, eraser, ruler, and a soft fluffy brush (a cheap cosmetic brush would work, too, and some will be provided if you don't have one). Optional supplies: colored pencils, markers, Finetec paints and brushes, fussy-cut scissors, sparkle pens, gold or silver markers, Wink of Stella, gems, Stickles or pearls to accent.
